In a vibrant and heartfelt celebration of the International Day of the Girl Child, an extraordinary event took place in Kampala, Uganda on October 11, 2023. Hosted by Raising Teenagers Uganda, the “Unite for Girls Night” brought together young girls, young women, and male supporters, uniting their forces for Girls’ Education, Ending Child Marriages, and Teenage Pregnancies.
The event was nothing short of inspirational, fostering a sense of unity and determination among attendees. Participants shared their remarkable experiences and work dedicated to supporting these vital causes.
Empowering Young Girls and Women
One of the key highlights of the evening was the open dialogue and experience sharing from the girls and young women present. They courageously spoke about their journey, emphasizing the importance of being role models for other young girls in their communities.
The event encapsulated the spirit of the International Day of the Girl Child, shedding light on the challenges and triumphs faced by young girls and women in Uganda. It provided a platform for these brave individuals to amplify their voices and drive positive change.
A Movement of Change
“Unite for Girls Night” is not just a celebration; it’s a movement. By gathering people together for a great cause, it aims to create awareness, engagement, and fundraising to end child marriages, support girls’ education, and eliminate teenage pregnancies. The event in Kampala was a testament to the power of collective action.
Participating organizations, including Girls In School Initiative, Amity for Humanity, Youth Chaperone Uganda, Rescue One More, Education & Development Opportunity – Uganda. Also Health ProMotion and Rights Watch Uganda, Totya Platform Uganda, Wezesha Girls Network and many others, joined forces to make this evening impactful. The event featured young girl leaders from Makerere University and various institutions, as well as primary level youngsters. It was a night of interaction, shared experiences, and forging collaborations for future efforts.
A Tradition We’re Building Together
The Unite for Girls Night is part of the Vow for Girls Global initiative. This event marks the beginning of a new tradition. Starting this year, October 11 will be celebrated as Unite for Girls Night, a tradition we are building together.
The event was held with participation of Girls In School Initiative, a community-based organization dedicated to offering quality education for all children. As well as ending gender-based violence, and working in fishing communities and islands. Their commitment to these causes was truly commendable.
